Keywords apartment burned fire department marietta training Caption 1001006 - Marietta - After spending the morning setting fires in the apartment and then putting it out as part of their core competency training, Marietta fire fighters let the vacant apartment building burn to the ground. Fire fighters kept the area wetted down to protect the adjacent structures. The city of Marietta purchased 14 acres off of Franklin Road to turn into a park. The fire department is using the 22 vacant apartments for live fire training. Area fire departments, including Marietta, Cobb, Smyrna, Cherokee, Sandy Springs and Dobbins will burn down the entire apartment complex during the next few weeks. The training includes wall breeching, and live fire extinguishment. Fire fighters need to complete live training annually to remain state certified as a fire fighter.
