090609 - Atlanta - Jim Peterik, best known for writing the rock anthem "Eye of the Tiger" from the Rocky movie of the same name, is mobbed by kids when he told them he had CDs to give out following a "master class" session where he performed "Eye of the Tiger" along with camp instructors, including Jeff Carlisi, former lead guitarist and songwriter for .38 Special and founder of the camp. Students head off to their next session, held in different sections of the school. Camp Jam, a rock and roll summer day camp for kids of various ages, started up this week at the Greenfield Hebrew Academy in Atlanta with weekly sessions that run through most of July with the motto "no canoes, lots of rock". The program includes sessions for kids aged 11- 17, and a separate program for kids 7 -10 called Camp Jam Kidz. The camp includes separate class sessions for each instrument and vocals to develop skills, and group work where students are grouped with other musicians to form a band and practice together for a closing night performance on stage in the school auditorium for family and friends. Students work on stage presence as well as their ensemble and music techniques. Midweek the camp offers a "master class" with featuring a working musician. This week's class featured Jim Peterik. Peterik is best known for his band Survivor and for writing the rock anthem "Eye of the Tiger."The founder of Camp Jam is Atlanta's own Jeff Carlisi, former lead guitarist and songwriter for .38 Special.
