Warner Robins, an Air Force maintenance and logistics center, helped to keep the mid-Georgia economy afloat. There are openings for civilian mechanics to work on the massive C-130 and C-5 transport planes at Robins Air Force Base, and the wars in Afghanistan and Iraq ensure a steady supply of military jobs as well. In a recession that slammed the private sector, the public sector almost single handedly kept Georgia afloat. The military, education and health care industries added tens of thousands of jobs.
