110706 - Loganville - I was photographing this bee when in a flash it's wings turned into a blur. I pressed the shutter release just in time to catch the moment of "lift off". A bumble bee "takes off" from a zinnia flower in Dale Davis Sikes' garden. She counts bumble bees as well as honey bees. Dale Davis Sikes is a Master Gardener and bee keeper. She is also one of the area's bee counters. Atlanta is home to many of the 100,000 bee counters who take a census each month of bees pollinating their sunflowers, to help with a sweeping study of bee populations by a San Francisco scientist.
