090328 - Alpharetta - As the scout troop watches, Carmelo "Doc" Infantino, a veteran Navy Corpsman who served with the Marines in Vietnam, performs the flag retirement ceremony, the first time he has done so.. The ashes will be buried in a "sacred place". The Alpharetta American Legion post and Boy Scout troop 841 conduct a flag-retirement ceremony. The veterans group has collected tattered or faded national flags from area residents. Federal law mandates that Old Glory be retired with dignity, which typically is done by burning. The American Legion will retire the flags in a ceremony established in 1937. Shot Saturday, March 28, 2009 BOB ANDRES / bandres@ajc.com
